About
Welcome to On-Yasai, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Tokyo's Shinjuku City. Translating to "warm vegetables," this delightful restaurant specializes in shabu-shabu—a Japanese hot pot dish that emphasizes the freshness of ingredients and the joy of communal dining. Situated within the bustling Wa Mall, On-Yasai is a haven for those seeking both variety and flavor.
As a food reviewer for Menu Buzz, I was eager to explore what On-Yasai had to offer. The all-you-can-eat menu features an impressive selection of meats and vegetables, catering to both the adventurous palate and comfort seekers. While some guests noted that the quality of the meat may not be top-tier, the extensive array of fresh greens certainly compensates for it. There's something gratifying about being able to dip various types of fresh vegetables into a bubbling pot of broth and customizing each bite to your preference.
Customer experiences vary, with remarks highlighting the quick and attentive service, particularly from staff members like Sato, who have a knack for managing large groups efficiently while maintaining a warm demeanor. This speaks volumes about the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction. However, guests should be prepared for the cozy ambiance that On-Yasai offers—many found the space a bit cramped, which can enhance the intimate dining experience but may not suit everyone.
If you’re looking for a place where the simple act of sharing a meal transforms into an enjoyable experience, On-Yasai shines. The interactive aspect of shabu-shabu invites diners to engage with their food, fostering a sense of camaraderie that is hard to resist. So gather your friends, embrace the flavors of Japan, and prepare for a hot pot experience that is both fulfilling and fun. Don’t forget to brush up on your Japanese to enhance your interaction with the friendly staff!
“ Really cramped space. The food is solid but the meat isn't as high quality as I'd like. The staff was quick and attentive but knowing Japanese will definitely help. I've had them in Hong Kong though more expensive is much better. ”
“ Nice choice for shabu-shabu hot pot. The direct translation of the restaurant is "warm vegetables", and there are many different varieties of greens to choose. The menu has two bid parts, which are all-you-can-eat menu and a la carte menu to order. ”
“ Decent all you can eat shabu shabu place. Wide variety of meat and side dishes to choose from. Helpful and friendly staff too. ”
“ We had a group of 16 people. We were lucky that they were able to accommodate us in the large back room on a Saturday night. Sato, our waitress, who not only helped our group, but also all the other groups in the large back room, did a wonderful job of making sure everyone was looked after on a busy night with a constant smile on her face. She was very kind, efficient & effective in bringing and taking all the food and drinks. We really appreciated her being so kind for our large group. All the food was delicious and came out fast. We really enjoyed being able to choose the individual items we wanted. The only negative part was the temperature of the room. It was really hot when we first arrived, so they turned the AC all the way up, so it made the room too cold, but then turned it off, so the room got really hot again. Besides that, it was a wonderful group experience. Thank you very much for taking care of our large group, Sato. We really appreciated all of your help! We look forward to a return visit. ”
